Enhancing Delay Differentiation Semantics of Class-Based IP Networks

چکیده
This paper presents a time-sensitive scheduler oriented to delay differentiation in class-based networks, studying its behaviour from a single node to an end-to-end perspective. The novel feature of this scheduler is that it tries to bound the queuing delay per class and, simultaneously, to control the excess queuing delays in order to avoid class starvation. The study analyses the scheduler behaviour for heterogeneous class-load distributions and distinct timescales proving the robustness of the mechanism. Discussion on its operational feasibility conditions is carried out and configuration guidelines for its use are provided. In addition, the paper proposes a new queue selection procedure in order to improve its performance in high speed networks.

A Multiconstrained Qos Aware Scheduler for Class-based Ip Networks
This article presents a modular scheduler with powerful semantics able to differentiate simultaneously multiple QoS metrics in classbased IP networks. In opposition to traditional scheduling mechanisms, this scheduler encompasses rate, loss and delay differentiation capabilities in a flexible way. This behaviour stems from new relative and mixed differentiation models able to bound QoS paramete...
متن کاملA Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks
Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...
متن کاملProportional Delay Differentiation Employing the CBQ Service Discipline
The DiffServ architecture provides a scalable mechanism for QoS introduction in a TCP/IP network. The idea of DiffServ is based on the aggregation of traffic flows at an ingress (or egress) point of a network and the IP packet marking for different priority flows, according to several classification criteria. Two approaches exist in the DiffServ architecture: the absolute and the relative. In a...
متن کاملOptimization and Stability of TCP/IP with Delay-Sensitive Utility Functions
TCP/IP can be interpreted as a distributed primal-dual algorithm to maximize aggregate utility over source rates. It has recently been shown that an equilibrium of TCP/IP, if it exists, maximizes the same aggregate utility function over both source rates and routes, provided pure congestion prices are used as link costs in the shortest-path calculation of IP. Moreover, the utility functions are...
